Basketball
In Basketball, I prefer to cover games with a wide angle lens. This allows for action to occur well in the image, better availability for emotions off the bench, and for the frame of the image to work especially well with jump shots. A zoom lens works well when they make three pointers or when I am taking pictures from the outside angle.

Men's Basketball
When I cover Men's Basketball, I prefer to cover games from the inside angle underneath the basket. This allows me ample room to capture jump shots, pressure between either team, and detailed images.
Women's Basketball
When I cover Women's Basketball, I prefer to cover games from the inside angle underneath the basket even though at times the team will stay on the outer ring.
